What California allows on windshields
In California, colored or darkened tint on a windshield is only allowed on the top 4 inches, down to the factory AS-1 line — anything darker below that line risks a citation. A clear, colorless UV-blocking ceramic film is a different category entirely: because it doesn't visibly darken the glass, it can legally cover the full windshield, and it's what actually knocks down the heat and glare pouring through your largest piece of glass.

Windshield Film Explained
Most drivers assume windshield glass works the same as their side windows, but it doesn't. Windshields are laminated safety glass — bonded in two layers around a plastic interlayer — built primarily for impact resistance. That construction blocks a good share of UV on its own, but does little against infrared heat, which is why a windshield can feel like a heat lamp even on a car whose side windows are already tinted.
The visor strip isn't a fixed height across every vehicle — where glare actually hits your eyes depends on the rake of your specific windshield and where you sit in the driver's seat, so we cut the strip to your car's factory AS-1 line and the curve of the glass rather than applying a uniform template.
