Removal Details
The film is usually the easy part. Auto parts store removal sprays and scraper kits do a reasonable job loosening the film layer itself, but the adhesive underneath is a completely separate problem — it's formulated to bond permanently to glass, not to lift away when the film does. That's why DIY jobs often end with the bubbled film gone but a hazy, streaky residue left behind.
Southern California heat also accelerates both how film fails and how firmly the old adhesive bakes onto the glass — a car that's spent years parked outdoors in the Valley sun typically has more stubborn adhesive than one that's been garaged the whole time.
We also regularly see vehicles where a previous installer applied new tint directly over an old, already-failing layer instead of removing it first.
